[NLPL Task Force (A)] (no) nightly automated emails

colleagues,

some of you may feel there is something missing in your inbox this morning?

i have ‘muffled’ the automated sending of email from our nightly NLPL
cron(1) jobs. last night, there simply was nothing to report: no new
or removed files to replicate, no change in our list of users, nothing
to back-up to NIRD.

i have now put some ‘TEST’ files in various places, and i also believe
new NLPL users will be added on Abel today; so, i expect there should
be some automated emails when we wake up tomorrow :-).

as a kind of heartbeat signal, i have currently set up the scripts to
always email us on mondays. that means, if we have not received any
emails for more than a week, then we should worry about these cron(1)
jobs ...

—also, i just reminded myself of something worth keeping in mind: the
archives from the ‘infrastructure’ list are actually public; i recall
we thought at the time that the transparency would be appreciated.
so, please remember to not post sensitive information to the list,
e.g. passwords or operational ‘secrets’ :-).

best, oe
